The temporal lobes are the auditory areas of the brain responsible for hearing. Sound waves actually travel into the ear where they cause vibrations in the membranes of the inner ear. Hair cells that become stimulated by the sound waves then transmit them to the temporal lobe, then to the thalamus, and finally to the cerebral cortex. They are located in both the left and right hemispheres of the brain just underneath the parietal lobe and right where the ears are. Damage to these areas of the brain may result in loss of hearing. In this section I have included pictures and sounds of my favorite bands so that you can HEAR them.
